Zeus- The God of Sky

He was also responsible for passing judgement to gods and mortals. He has the power of nature, carrying the lightning bolt as a weapon. A tribute to his power. The natural world was scary for the mortals. They did not know why lightning strikes randomly during storms.  So they said they were symptoms of gods power.

Origin : theogony, same as book of genesis

In the myth, cronos was the king of the titans, then the most powerful gods in the universe. They were not well civilized. As god, he must mate and produce offsprings. So he mates with his own sister, Rea. Old saying says that no one is good enough for our family than our own family. So incest was common. Hades, poseidon and zeus. But cronos was scared that his own son would replace him and become more powerful. So cronos decides to swallow them up. Now since they are immortals, they cannot die. They are just locked into his belly. Rea is horrified. When rea is pregnant again, she goes to a cave and gives birth to zeus. When cronos demands of the child, she gives him a rock to swallow. Zeus is saved. Myth says zeus was born on the island of crete on a mountain. Zeus grows up in the cave. He needs to reinstate his own position. If he loses, he will have to go to tarturus, the hell. Highest peak in Greece, mount Olympus. Other children grew up inside belly. Zeus mixes something and gives to cronos. Cronos becomes ill and starts vomiting. First the rock comes out which rea had given her. That rock is today the foundation for the ancient temple of Delphi, the home of the oracle. It ws a temple where people would come to ask god for advice. Zeus now has siblings by his side who have escaped from cronos’s belly. But he needs more manpower to defeat cronos. There were forgotten brothers of cronos, the Cyclops in tarturus , and the 100 handers. Zeus convinces them to be on his side. They are happy since zeus has released them and treates them equally. Cyclops present zeus with a gift, the power of lightning.

Battle begins

100 handers throw mountains on other side. Zeus throwing lightning. Actual volcanic eruptions happened there. Tifon is summoned by cronos. Dion temple dedicated to zeus built near mt Olympus. Eagles were symbol of zeus. Zeus has this uncontrollable sex drive. He changed forms to mate with them. Sometimes eagle,  sometimes swan and sometimes bull. One day he got attracted to this woman god called metis. Metis means practical wisdom. Prophecy tells that one day his son wil defeat him, so he swallows metis. He absorbs her wisdom too. He needs a new wife. He marries his sister, Hera. Hera is powerful. Queen of goddesses. She is jealous as zeus is always going uot with other women. So she plans to overthrow zeus. She ties him on his own bed. All Olympians gather together.

All other Olympians were condemned Apollo and poseidon to built walls of troy. Justice has been served.

Once zeus sees humans involved in cannibalism. He gets angry. Punishes by sending storms for 9 days and 9 nights. Only 2 people survive by travelling in an ark. After this incident came Christianity which started replacing the authority of zeus.

Ares- God of War

ARES was the great Olympian god of war, battlelust, civil order. He was depicted as either a mature, bearded warrior dressed in battle arms, or a nude beardless youth with helm and spear.The symbol of Ares was the spear and his sacred animal was the dog.The month March was named in honour of Ares (Mars), and war dances were held during that period.

Ares was famous for having an affair with the goddess Aphrodite.With her he fathered Deimos, Phobes, Eros, Adrestra, Anteros and probably the most dangerous of all was Cycnus. Once when Ares and Aphrodite were making love, Helios, the god of sun, saw them. He went back and told Hephaestus, Aphrodite's husband. Hephaestus wove an invisible net and placed it as an ambush trap. Next time the two lovers met, they were both trapped. Hephaestus then called all the other gods to look at them, caught red-handed.

Ares is also alleged to have killed Adonis, Aphrodite's lover. Aphrodite fell in love with this youth, possibly because she was wounded by an arrow by Eros.Aphrodite sheltered Adonis as a new-born baby and entrusted him to Persephone. But Persephone was herself attracted towards Adonis.The dispute between the two goddesses was settled by Zeus. Adonis was to spend one-third of every year with each goddess and the last third wherever he chose. He chose to spend two-thirds of the year with Aphrodite.Adonis was killed by a wild boar, which was apparently Ares disguised.

Kadmos, who was searching for the kidnapped Europa together with his mother, reached a place Samothrake, where his mother died. After the funeral he went to see the Oracle of Delphi. This told him that he would better forget to find Europa, as the Oracle knew who had kidnapped her. Instead of this, he should just wait until the day he would find a herd of cows. If one of them would have a moon-shaped sign on its ass, then he should kick the cow and follow the animal to there where it would die. There he should found a city. So he did, founding the city of Theban and creating the Theban Saga. Nearby, next to a fountain, there lived a dragon. Kadmos killed the beast. He did not know that the dragon belonged to the war god Ares. To stop the rage of Ares, Athena advice him to take the teeth of the dragon and to sow them as if they were regular seeds. From the teeth grew men that, as soon as they were out of the earth, started to fight against each other. He named them Spartoi, and these were the ancestors of the Spartans. Even then, Kadmos had still to serve Ares during eight years and to do all kinds of trifles for him. But still he managed to keep one of the dragon teeth, the one that would create the so-called "killer machines". After the 8 years of serving Ares, Kadmos was given Harmonia as a wife. Harmonia was the daughter of the war god and Aphrodite.

According to a late tradition, Ares slew Hallirhothios, the son of Poseidon, when he was on the point of raping Aliped, the daughter of Ares. Hereupon Poseidon accused Ares in the Areiopagos, where the Olympian gods were assembled in court. Ares was acquitted, and this event was believed to have given rise to the name Areiopagos.

Aphrodite- The symbol of love

Aphrodite was an ancient greek mythological symbol of beauty, love, pleasure and and procreation. She is often depicted as a beautiful naked woman accompanied by a winged goddess Eros.Her attributes included a dove, apple, scallop shell and mirror. According to Hesiod, she was born when Uranus (the father of the gods) was castrated by his son Cronus. Cronus threw the severed genitals into the ocean which began to churn and foam about them. From the aphros ("sea foam") arose Aphrodite, and the sea carried her to either Cyprus or Cythera. Hence she is often referred to as Kypris and Cytherea. Homer calls her a daughter of Zeus and Dione.

Zeus was scared that other gods would fight over Aphrodite over her marriage proposals, so he cut all scopes and married her to a hard working smith god Hephaestus. Getting such a wife was a dream for him, so he used all his resources to make beautiful jewellery for her to keep her happy and contended. Aphrodite on the other hand knew about her beauty and was always amongst glitz and glamor. the jewelery made her more popular amongst gods and mortals.


Her corresponding love goddess in roman mythology is venus and her messenger is the Cupid.

The lazarus effect review

The movie revolves around a young lady, who has still not been able to overcome her childhood fears. Lazarus is a chemical discovered by a handful of scientists, which can revive the dead. Its premise lay on a hypothesis that the chemical can stimulate brain cells and passing a few kilo-volts of electricity can make it work again. But their work is being monitored by other agents from the company who have sponsored their experiments. They test their brainchild on a dog, which comes back to life after the protagonist pulls the trigger. They keep the dog under observation for a few days, when suddenly the team lead of the group comes to know that their project is being shutdown. They later figure it out that some other pharmaceutical company has taken over their company and they have information of the this particular project. Having known about the fortune this chemical can generate, they realize that their four years have been a waste and the original credit of invention would be taken away from them. They decide to break into the lab the following night and repeat the experiment again with another dead dog, and record it. But during the replication of the experiment, the protagonist, Olivia Wilde, gets electrocuted while pulling the trigger. Her husband, the lead scientist of the group tries hard but is not able to get her back. Unable to handle her loss, he decides to use lazarus on her wife. The rest of the group do not support him but still help him, in a hope that she would turn out well as the dog has.

The experiment is successful and Olivia comes back to life, only to discover a few hours later that her mind is now capable of doing things that other people can't. A mutant ? yea, pretty much !! More like Jean grey, back to life. But with great power comes great responsibilities, which of course Olivia isn't able to figure out. The dark secret inside her which has been eating her away from inside since her childhood engulfs her more and she traps herself into the infinite empty space with nowhere to go. Her friends try helping her but in vain. She kills them all !! Even the 'back from hell' dog goes back to hell again ! Eventually everyone gets killed, opening the ending scene for a second part.

Overall, the action part of the horror appeals and the rest of the concept however loses its essence as the movie progressed. Being an 83 min movie, there wasn't much scope to create a story. Everything happens quickly. I was expecting a lot more than this lazarus. Just not a dead human turning into a live mutant just to kill others because you were suffering from a post traumatic stress from your childhood !! Waiting for a worthy horror movie.

NH10 Reviews

NH10 turned out to be more nail biting than I had presumed. It touches upon a very sensitive topic prevalent in the society today, Honor Killing. While India boasts of providing equal rights to everyone, but when it comes to choosing someone to love, families are ready to cut down throats in the name of so called self-respect.
The story starts with Anushka being at the receiving end of an attack at a crossing on the streets of Delhi, which prompts her to get a revolver for self defense.
Anushka and Neil plan out a trip to celebrate Anushka's bday. They park along an eating joint on NH10 when they come across a couple being dragged by a few people and taken away in an SUV.
Neil tries to help but is snapped back in return and the goons take off. Neil, while getting back at the wheel again, is not able to accept the insult and decided to teach them a lesson, seeing the SUV a few turns away. He follows them, and finds the group beating the couple in the forests. Eventually even Neil and Anushka are caught, but they manage to escape with the revolver, with which Neil shoots down 2 of their group members but gets stabbed on his leg in return. The next part of the movie completely focuses on Anushka being the lead, running around places at night to get help for her injured husband Neil. With goons chasing her, she tries taking help from the cops who, are unfortunately are part of the conspiracy and try to take her down.

The story showcases a sorry state of affairs in many regions of India including NCR. its not a gender based issue and even women of the family support it without remorse. Freedom to love, to decide one's life partner doesn't reside with oneself anymore. Sadly this issue roots up from much deeper issues of caste and religion. Caste has engulfed this country for so long that inter caste marriages are considered an unforgivable sin. Villages with no proper education are still living under baseless customs. Death is the penalty given to those breaking them, and what one gets to see on their eyes is hatred and anger, raising a serious question on the so called civilized minds. Have we really reached a point, where killing another human being, for the sake of irrelevant rules is such a small task that no one is afraid to do it. Is there still hope for this species, or is it a point of no return ?

Hats off to Anushka's acting.  Specially, when she smokes a cigarette in front of the man she is about to kill , her eyes gleam of liberation and freedom, something that is being taken away from women today !!

Hero 2002 movie

Hero is a beautiful movie narration, based on the assassination attempt on the King of Qin. It starts with Nameless, a warrior taken to dine with the emperor as a reward for killing three assassins, who attempted to kill the king three years ago.
Happy with his bravery, he is allowed to sit 10 paces from the king, a privilege not given to many, considering the enemies the king has made over years of war.

Nameless starts with his version of the story of how he exploits the weak points of his enemies, Long Sky, Flying Snow, and Broken Sword. As he  narrates how he manages to use the feeling of jealousy to make snow kill sword, her love, the king begins to grow suspicious and says such a scenario is not possible. He has faced them both, and knows how they think. He knows both snow and sword are above such feelings and would not choose violence for such a petty reason. He begins to contemplate on how nameless has faked the story, and how he must have convinced sky,snow and sword to sacrifice their life, in order to gain King's confidence and get within a striking range, in order to accomplish something which sky, snow and sword couldn't. King's assassination. Nameless is impressed by king's wisdom, as he accepts what the king says, now narrating the original version. But there is something else which the king misses, rather underestimates. And the whole plot again begins to change, as we come to know how three years ago, sword and snow reach close enough to kill the king, but sword spares his life with a greater motive in mind. Ultimately, he teaches 2 words to Nameless, that rattles Nameless's motive to kill the king. 'Our Land'.
China is in a state of chaos, divided into 7 states, all fighting with each other with no peace. The king of Qin has a vision of conquering all those 7 states, and he is the only king who has the army, power and will to win all battles to reign over China.
Sword knew, the only way to stop such a chaos, is for Qin to take over all kingdoms and start a new life for China.For such a life, the king of Qin had to live.For such a dream, Sword gives up his motive to kill the king, requesting snow and Nameless to share his vision.

The movie has some pretty mind boggling scenes, giving the violent scenes a philosophical angle, the way sky and Nameless predict and picture their battle, moments before it is about to happen, in a rainstorm, with music playing in the background. The fighting style of Nameless and sword are commendable. Sword relates his swordsmanship to calligraphy, saying that there is a lot of similarity between the two. The movie transcends the boundaries of Chinese fighting style, turning it into a ballet and a fight between minds, how a mind abandons the feeling of vengeance to think for the greater good. It is a classic example of Roshomon effect, giving contradictory interpretations to the same action.
Worth watching!!

#Mychoice my views

In the light of feminism, when the whole world is running after women rights and just another trigger is required for the fourth wave of feminism, the concept has been taken too far by Deepika Padukone. There is always a choice, given to everyone. But it does not mean choice be exercised everywhere in the name of rights. There is a difference between freedom, rights and choices. A woman has the right to wear whatever she wants, roam around with whomsoever she wants, drink and sleep with whomever she wants. Its the fundamental right Indian constitution provides to everyone, and it is not her fault at all if tomorrow a man rapes her because of her short dress or being open minded. She is a free soul and has the freedom to enjoy all amenities of life as a man does.

Now, when it comes down to making choices, one must also to evaluate the effects it would bring down upon her/him. Yes women have a choice of sleeping with anyone, even after marriage, but do not shout at us and show hypocrisy if we sleep with women outside our marriage too#mychoice. Yes you have a choice to not carry my child if you get pregnant, but do not shout at us if we decide to have a child with some other woman #mychoice. If tomorrow, you dump a guy saying you are not interested in, and its your choice, then do not abuse me if tomorrow I dump you, my choice changes too#mychoice. If tomorrow I disrespect women, do not throw stones at me #mychoice.
Yes Deepika, it's your choice and your views, but sorry that i do not share your ideology #mychoice.

You say"You are my choice,not privilege". "my" ? Since when have u owned me, neither have i claimed to own you. I am not your property, neither are you.
I fail to understand how infidelity and sexism can empower women !! You say you have the choice of sleeping with anyone outside marriage.Adultery is not feminism, its a personal choice which everyone is can exercise irrespective of gender. How is that even related to women empowerment and women rights ?

And then comes another brand endorsed video by Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina # respect2protect.

I understand the respect part, by why protect ? We have women made so habitual to this term, that in their subconscious mind, they need men to protect their dignity, identity and respect. That it's a man's duty to do it, making her more dependable on us, than being independent. I do not doubt their intention, but the the way they moderate it is sheer stupidity. No, I am not liable for her protection. It is not my duty. She is strong enough that she CAN handle herself, and face any grave situation in front of her. I will come down for her protection only in the name for humanity, as one individual should help another, irrespective of gender, but not as a duty inflicted upon the male population.

Vogue on one hand earns money by photo-shopping and editing every women image on their  cover page, showing off every glamorous page on their front page because that is what sells, but on the other hand it says it's fine to be what you are, and one should be respected for what one is, its your choice. Isn't that sheer hypocrisy ?

This is the image from vogue's website showing 'best dressed' women. If you think they are best, what about the ones who #choose to wear a normal suit or saree and who are not celebrities ? Are you not judging them by discriminating the way they dress, not being in your 'best category' list just because it was their choice to wear what they want !!

Women empowerment is about educating and enlightening women, so that tomorrow they get self sufficient and independent. Empowerment is not gained by making sexual choices in marriage or wearing short dresses madame.

Feminism is a robust tool. One should use it wisely to bring up the suppressed gender, not to discriminate the other and blaming them for every wrong thing happening with yours.

The world today requires feminism with a purpose to earn back women rights, taken away from them unfortunately from the patriarchal culture. But dominating men and doing anything because its your choice would only bring anarchy to the society. Use feminism to educate women and make informed and logical #choices in her life, not to make any harsh choices in the name of being a free soul.
